Surf Strider Band was formed in 2018 by Strider Slocum (vocals and guitar) and Eric Parent (bass guitar), both formerly of the Wooden Bones. Joined by Chris Schelleng on guitar, the band quickly developed a unique sound blending genres like jam band, reggae, classic rock, country, blues, and punk. In late 2023, Raymond Kingston took over as drummer after Zeljko Mikulic departed.
In 2021, the band released Be Here Now and Sunset, followed by the 2022 album Surf Strider Band Live! At the Parrot. The 2024 singles Take Off and Hope Road further showcase their evolving style.
About the Band Members:
Strider Slocum: Growing up surrounded by 70’s and 80’s music in southern Florida, Strider blends a laid-back beach vibe with the jam band music he loves. His influences range from jazz improvisation to post-punk noise and the groove of a great drum beat. “I hope to use the songs we sing, as a framework to explore music and dance, and be happy,” says Strider.
Chris Schelleng: Hailing from Virginia, Chris’s musical journey began with folk, country, bluegrass, classical, and 60’s rock. His first guitar was a plywood acoustic passed down from his mother, and his eclectic influences span from Merle Haggard to Kraftwerk and Wilco. Chris is known for his fluid approach to music, playing every song with a unique twist.
Eric Parent: A native of Chiltonville, Plymouth, Eric’s love for music knows no bounds. With roots in classic rock, first-wave alternative, and Motown, Eric’s bass lines are as versatile as they are infectious, constantly driving the rhythm of the band.
Raymond Kingston: A seasoned drummer with over 35 years of experience, Ray has played in over 100 gigs across the South Shore music scene. His influences range from legendary drummers like John Bonham and Joey Baron to modern artists like Radiohead and Frank Zappa. Ray is known for his versatility, playing everything from rock to jazz, funk, and more. He also produces and mixes music, collaborating remotely from his home studio.
